You’ll be side-eyeing your local corner shop after this. A London-based Londis has gone viral for serving up homemade curries and hosting a DJ set.

Based in Stoke-Newington, Anju and her 85 year old mother-in-law have become Internet sensations for making traditional Gujarati food and selling it at the N16 corner shop. Their family-run store currently boasts over 13K followers on Instagram and features aesthetic food shots, behind-the-scenes photos and its fair share of memes.

In a recent interview with LondONtheinside, Anju’s son Priyesh explained how his mum goes home early every Tuesday and Thursday to cook with his grandmother. Anju joked: “We don’t get tired and we don’t like to sit around!”

According to their Instagram page, the shop serves food on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – alongside offering a catering service. Just some of their mouth watering dishes include items like samosas, stuffed peppers, butter paneer, lemon chutney and pistachio tiramisu.

It’s even gained enough of a cult following that British rock band Glass Animals performed a “secret” show outside the corner shop back in July. Viral TikToks showed an entire street of fans partying around stalls of fruit and veg.

“I felt this really big sense of community in our area,” Priyesh said, reflecting back on the impromptu concert. “Sometimes in an area like Stoke Newington which is changing so much, I feel like there can be a loss of that community and togetherness.”

Under viral Instagram post, commenters flocked to express how much this shop meant to the community. “We are so lucky to have you as our local shop for 30 years. In that time, our families have grown, and through the ups and downs, you’ve always been there. How precious!” one wrote.

"These guys are the absolute best - they were my local Londis for a few years in Stoke Newington and the family is so wonderful," another said.

A third added: “I miss my corner shop days in NW London SO much (!!!) You’ll never understand how much these little important, special interactions shape your life.
